In order to provide the best possible support for our customers, we have created a list of Frequently Asked Questions regarding Vision Microsystems products. If your question is not listed or you would like more information, please contact us.

Can I install the system myself?

YES: In the case of amateur built aircraft, you can perform the installation yourself by following the explicit instructions in the manual. For certified applications, you must check with your local authorities for the proper procedures.

Are all the sensors, cabling and connectors included?

YES: The sensors are extremely accurate and rugged sensors that we have carefully selected. These sensors have a proven track record in many applications including military aircraft. You do not have to worry about compatibility or spend time trying to specify and obtain sensors. We also include the cabling and connectors to insure you get the best possible performance and value.

Is the VM1000 or EP800 system FAA Certified?
YES: We now have FAA TSO Authorization (the highest level of quality and performance assurance obtainable) on the VM1000, EPI800, EC100, Fuel Level system, and accessories (OAT/CAT & Chronometer). The equipment may be installed in certified aircraft following the proper regulatory procedures.

What about upgrading. Technology is changing so fast, is your system upgradeable?

YES: There have been numerous product improvements and new developments over the past 15 years. Even our first delivered system (1986 EPI800 vintage), which is still in service, can be upgraded to our latest configuration! This is important to you, to insure that you retain the value of your system and that it keeps pace with technological advancements.

Is the VM1000 compatible with the Teledyne Continental Motors Powerlink™ FADEC system?

YES: In cooperation with TCM Aerosance, we have developed a compatible version which is called the VM1000FX. This system connects to the Powerlink™ via a single cable, creating a simple, reliable cost effective installation. Contact us or Aerosance for details.

I am thinking of using an electronic ignition system. Can I still use your system?
YES: New VM1000 and EPI800 are compatible with most of the electronic ignition systems currently on the market. To make configuration easier, specify the type of an electronic ignition at the time of ordering.

How long will the system continue to operate in case my aircraft charging system quits?

The VM1000 system draws very little power (typically less than 0.3 amps). In comparison, the aircraft master solenoid draws four times this much! Due to our energy efficient design, you don't have to worry about the VM1000 draining your battery, or having to shut it down to conserve power, in the event that the aircraft charging system quits.

Does the VM1000 or EPI800 have an auto leaning mode?
YES: Both the VM1000 and the EPI800 have our exclusive automatic peak detection mode making leaning the engine a simple operation. The computer monitors all EGT values and detects the first EGT to lean out. There are no numbers to write down or remember, no changing between cylinders to find which cylinder is peaking first, and no mathematics to determine peak EGT and the proper number to enrich the mixture to.

What is your "Autotrack" mode?
Autotrack is our exclusive feature used on the VM1000, which tracks your engine performance any time you select this mode. It alerts you if any parameter changes from the original value when activated such as, a slow decrease in oil pressure, fuel pressure, etc. A real safety advantage!

How does the VM1000 alert you?
Whenever the engines redline is reached for a given function the display for that function will flash until the condition is rectified. For example, If the oil temperature rises above redline, the system captures the event and the Oil Temp display is flashed until the problem is rectified. If optionally equipped with the EC100, an audible alert and text message will activate in the annunciator system. This is a real advantage in the busy cockpit environment.

It might take a while before my airplane is finished. If I buy the equipment now, but fly many years later, will my warranty expire ?
NO: We know that some times it takes a while before your airplane is finished. Because of this, Vision Microsystems was the first company that allowed its customers to start their warranty coverage when they first fly their aircraft.

Do you have a video of the system available?
YES: We have a VHS video available. The video shows the instruments in actual cockpit settings, as well as in a working display. There is a brief demonstration of the various functions on the VM1000 and EC100 and comments from pilots who have experience with product.

Can I change the checklist in the EC100?
YES: You may customize your checklist on paper, then send it to the factory and we will program it into a permanent memory chip. The sheets to use as a guideline are located in the manual. This allow you maximum flexibility in customizing your EC100 to suite your needs.

Is the EC100 just an electronic checklist?
NO: Besides being an electronic checklist the EC100 is also a Engine caution advisory system complete with audio warning, and an engine parameter display. See EC100 under products page for more information.

What about technical support? Do you have a help number? What does it cost?

Our technical support is second to none. We routinely call back our customers, in case we are not available at the moment to take your call. You can call our tech support anytime during our normal business hours on our normal business number. Our tech support is FREE, unlike others who may charge for the phone time. If we receive a unit in the morning for inspection, it will likely be examined (and repaired, if necessary) the same day! This support is unmatched in the industry. Other manufacturers will sometimes ask for an EXPEDITE fee.
